Insurance Claim Procedure

  • Sign and File Claim

Once it is determined that a claim is going to be filed please complete and have the homeowner sign both the Assignment of Claim form and Contingency forms. Then have the homeowner call his or her insurance company to call in and initiate a claim. Once you receive the information from the insurance company regarding the claim information please add it to the Contingency form. It is important to get the name of the insurance company, claim number, and adjuster name, phone number and email address if available. For reference some insurance company and adjuster information can be found here if needed.

If Emergency service is necessary to mitigate further damage you will need to complete and have the homeowner sign the Emergency Service Agreement. For more information on the Emergency Service process click here.

  • Determine the Cause of Loss

The first step in the insurance claims process is to determine that there is damage resulting rom a peril covered under the homeowners insurance policy. A peril is the cause of property damage or personal injury, origin of desire for insurance and is also known as “Cause of Loss”. A few examples of cause of loss can be Fire, Water, Wind, Hail, and Vehicle damage. Certain Insurance policies limit or omit coverage for certain causes of loss. • Document the Loss

Take photos of the damaged area and note affected areas. Complete a Scope Sheet select the area damaged whether it be roofing, siding or both. The form is designed to allow for additional information to be entered if certain conditions are met. It is important for the estimating process that photos of all elevations and roof areas are taken regardless of damage. Required fields are Name, Type of Work, Photo of Front Elevation and Measurements.

Make sure to select the type of measurement being requested. If you are requesting a Hover report you will need to use the app and take photos on site. For other methods select the type of measurement and they will be ordered by the office. Please note if manual measurements are included or attached to the file.
